Frozen Colostrum For The Future

ColostrumI only had one ewe single this year, but I took full advantage of that and milked colostrum out of her three times in the first twelve hours, to freeze for future use. The rest of the ewes had twins or triplets, so I didn’t want to rob any of them.

I strained the milk into sandwich-sized zip-lock baggies, and set those inside juice glasses in the freezer. The results are small eight-ounce bricks of milk that I can thaw and use on a distressed or bummer lamb in the future. I double-bagged them, labeled them with a Sharpie pen, and stored them deep in the chest freezer for safekeeping for next year.
