Offered for sale as a purebred commercial Katahdin ewe $300

Cute red spotted ewe. Pedigree traces back to Birch Cove Farm (David Coplen, MO), the USDA Research Station in Booneville, AR, and Gibraltar Farm in New York (Etienne and Isabel Richards) plus my/local genetics. Really nice EBVs across the board. Caveat: this ewe  had entropion (inverted eyelids) as a lamb, which is lowly heritable, so I’m selling her unregistered as a commercial ewe and discounted. When these crop up, they are easily fixed with a penicillin injection below the eyelid, but it’s an inconvenience to deal with this, so we try to breed away from it. She will make a fine productive ewe on a small farm, and bred to a diverse sire, this issue may never recur in her lambs.

Offered for sale as a purebred Katahdin ewe $300.00

Very productive four year old ewe, with red tick markings. Most of her pedigree is out-of-state; Birch Cove Farm (David Coplen, MO) and Thistle Grove Farm (John Bare, DVM, Iowa). I’m dropping her because of her high FEC score, but she is otherwise very productive with good growth and milk scores and very high prolificacy. I don’t normally let ewes raise quadruplets on their own, but this girl has. She was raising triplets and let a 4th lamb move in with them and she was able to feed them all, on grass alone, in 2025. Lambing record starting as a two year old:  1/1, 2/1, 3/4, 2/2.

Offered for sale as a purebred registered Katahdin ewe  $275

This is a good 7 YO mama who still has quite a few productive years left. Red with white tail and hind socks, clean shedder. Her sire traces back to the now-retired Misty River line and Birch Cove Farm in Missouri. Dam traces back to Thistle Grove Farm (John Bare DVM, Iowa) and has a Dorper way back in her maternal pedigree. She has positive growth and milk scores, more modest on prolificacy and not strong on parasite resistance. Her overall scores and index are a little low, which is why she’s finally dropping out of my system as mature gal; so she is discounted. If she doesn’t sell I’ll breed her again this fall, as she is still productive. Lambing record starting as a two year old:  1/1, 1/1, 1/1, 2/2, 1/1.

I had listed her for sale as a regular breeding ewe, but realized in Aug bag check at weaning that she’s got some lumps from subclinical mastitis. This may limit her milk productivity in future years, so marking her as a pet. She can still be bred, but be prepared to bottle feed if she has twins.

White 2-year-old ewe in great shape. She did not lamb as a yearling (which is not uncommon) but is also open this year, confirmed by blood test in April (she did mark by a ram in November.) She is not likely to breed in the future, so selling at/below cull/ mutton price. She can go to a new home any time. She would make a nice pasture pet or herding flock matriarch.

Really flashy, big-framed chocolate and white ewe with long white socks. Three years old. She had twins as a yearling, missed a pregnancy last ear, and then again this year; and has blood-tested open in April. So she is not likely to breed again. She can go to a new home any time. She would make a nice pasture pet or herding flock matriarch.

Offered for sale as a commercial/ retired Katahdin ewe $275

Gentle chocolate ewe, six years old. She has really strong EBVs and is a great mother, but both sides of her udder are completely blocked out due to past years’ mastitis. She had triplets this year and I tried just penning her with one, and she couldn’t even keep that one fed within the first few days when demand was low. I farmed out her lambs to other ewes and the teat bucket, and her udder is already dried up and she can go to a new home any time. She would make a nice pasture pet or herding flock matriarch. It would be fine to let her breed again, just be prepared to orphan rear all her progeny.

Offered for sale as a commercial Katahdin ram lamb $250

Dark mahogany lamb with blaze. Dam hearkens to local genetics plus Birch Cove Farm (David Coplen, MO) and Misty River Farm (Mark Bakko, Moses Lake, now retired). Sire is from local genetics and traces back to Birch Cove and Lynn Fahrmeier (MO). Strong EBVs across the board, this ram will make a really nice sire for grower lambs and replacement ewes.

This ram’s dam died from hypocalc when he was a couple of days old, so he was orphan-reared on a teat bucket (so no concerns around tameness, he was not bottle/hand fed). This guy can go as as weaned commercial grower lamb in early June for $250. $100 additional for registration form paperwork (buyer pays to register). Price will go up in July.  He should be maintained on high protein creep feed ideally until August when he is  120 days old, after which he can grow out on grass.

Sire is From Karen Kenagy in OR with some background form the USDA Research Station in Booneville, AR. Really nice EBVs for growth, milk and parasite resistance, more moderate on prolificacy.

This ram got lost in the shuffle of some birth mixups, his dam tried to reject, and I didn’t have enough stanchion room to get her to take him, so he became an orphan-rear. (He is bucket trained, not bottle fed, so there should be no risk of him being too tame/ familiar with people.) A very diverse pedigree from around the US. Strong growth and maternal EBVs, modest on milk and not as strong for parasite resistance.
