Dark chocolate ram with a white snip. He’s got really strong EBVs across the board. Dam traces back to Misty River farm (Mary Bakko, Moses Lake, now retired) and Birch Cove Farm (David Coplen, Missouri). Sire is a son of a USDA ram from the Booneville, AR research station, managed by Dr. Joan Burke. We were lucky to borrow him on the West coast for a year.

KMC 22073

Offered for sale as a purebred register-able Katahdin ram lamb, $475

Big white, gentle and calm yearling ram with a giant brindle “Popeye” eye patch. Solid EBVs, though a little more modest on prolificacy and milk. Note this guy has a pretty high birth weight score, so monitor births on small or yearling ewes bred to him. Dam traces back to Misty River farm (Mary Bakko, Moses Lake, now retired) and Thistle Grove Farm (John Bare, DVM, Iowa). Sire is out of Birch Cove Genetics (David Coplen, Missouri). His sire and granddam were badger colored, and there are lots of deep mahogany and fawns here as well, for those who are “after” those color genetics; even though he is mostly white, he’ll probably throw some interesting colors.

Photo taken July 2023.  EBVs reflect 2023 lamb crop EPWWT data run. He is NSIP Stud Certified. This is a mature yearling ram teed up to breed a big flock of ewes this fall.

MRL 358

Offered for sale as a pet Katahdin ewe $275

This girl is at the end of her line for raising lambs, her milk supply is too compromised to even raise one lamb successfully. She came from Mary Bakko in Moses Lake, who retired from sheep a few years ago.  She was part of a smaller flock and she is very gentle and calm. She should live well into her teens, and would like to retire at a pet home! Photo taken June 2022.

KMC 22103

Offered for sale as a purebred register-able Katahdin ram lamb, $400

Nice, solid white ram lamb. He’s got really strong EBVs across the board, this is a very good set of genetics. Dam traces back to Birch Cove Farm (David Coplen, Missouri) and Thistle Grove Farm (John Bare, DVM, Iowa). Sire is from Birch Cove, he is one of the nicest EBV rams in the country right now, with strong, proven data behind him. We are lucky to have him here on the west coast and he’s going to be an influencer for some time to come.

Photo taken June 2022. EBVs from 2022 lamb crop WWT data run. He is NSIP Stud and Maternal Certified. This guy was born a quad to a dam who has a damaged udder from past subclinical mastitis. So I orphan-reared two of her lambs to reduce her burden. This guy is now weaned and eating creep and alfalfa well. He will need some time to transition/ train to eat grass (ideally with some other sheep to model), as he’s been indoors since birth.  Note despite being an orphan-rear, he is not tame (has hasn’t been bottle/hand fed, rather has been drinking from the teat bucket since 1 day old). So there is no concern about him becoming aggressive or hard to handle as an adult. He can go to a new home any time and will be ready to breed this fall.

Offered for sale as a registered Katahdin ewe $900, with lambs at side

Big-bodied, classic white ewe. She’s a nice blend of out-of-town genetics, tracing back to Thistle Grove Farm (John Bare, DVM, in Iowa) and Birch Cove Farm (David Coplen, Missouri). Positive for growth, and really strong on prolificacy, survival and milk. Lambing record starting as a 2-year-old: 2/2, 2/2, 2/2, 3/1 (lost one, I orphaned one by choice), 3/2 (I grafted one by choice).

Photo taken May 2022. EBVs from 2022 lamb crop BWT data and includes the new Genomics run calculations, and this ewe has been genotyped. NSIP is currently not reporting the USA HAIR index, until it can be updated with the new Genomics calculations.  This ewe is being sold with white ram and white ewelamb at side, at this price through end of July.
