Nice, solid white ram lamb. He’s got really strong EBVs across the board, this is a very good set of genetics. Dam traces back to Birch Cove Farm (David Coplen, Missouri) and Thistle Grove Farm (John Bare, DVM, Iowa). Sire is from Birch Cove, he is one of the nicest EBV rams in the country right now, with strong, proven data behind him. We are lucky to have him here on the west coast and he’s going to be an influencer for some time to come.

So I orphan-reared two of her lambs to reduce her burden. This guy is now weaned and eating creep and alfalfa well. He will need some time to transition/ train to eat grass (ideally with some other sheep to model), as he’s been indoors since birth.  Note despite being an orphan-rear, he is not tame (has hasn’t been bottle/hand fed, rather has been drinking from the teat bucket since 1 day old). So there is no concern about him becoming aggressive or hard to handle as an adult. He can go to a new home any time and will be ready to breed this fall.

Big-bodied, classic white ewe. She’s a nice blend of out-of-town genetics, tracing back to Thistle Grove Farm (John Bare, DVM, in Iowa) and Birch Cove Farm (David Coplen, Missouri). Positive for growth, and really strong on prolificacy, survival and milk. Lambing record starting as a 2-year-old: 2/2, 2/2, 2/2, 3/1 (lost one, I orphaned one by choice), 3/2 (I grafted one by choice).

Really good maternal behavior, but she’s got compromised milk production,  due to subclinical mastitis developing over the last three years. So if she’s bred again, her lambs will need to be trained to supplement off a teat bucket. Otherwise she’ll make a nice pasture pet. Lambing record starting as a yearling: 1/1, 2/2, 2/1, 2/0, 2/0.

Offered for sale as a pet Katahdin ewe $275

Sweet and gentle old wheaten colored girl who’s had lots of lambs here in her lifetime.  Good hair coat. Her performance is starting to dwindle here, but she could be bred again in a more generous feeding environment at a small homestead. Or she can just retire and live out her days as a lawnmower. Lambing record starting as a yearling: 1/1, 2/2, 2/2, 3/3, 2/2, 3/2, 3/2, 2/0, 3/2, 2/0. She was capable of raising triplets as a young ewe, but in her later years, I pulled one and let her raise twins. Twice she’s aborted twins early, including this year, so this could be a signal that her productive years are winding down. But she does have really good genetics, especially for prolifacy.

Really substantial, heavy-bodied, dark chocolate ewe. Good EBVs for growth, milk and survival; modest  on prolificacy, she’ll tend towards singles/twins and away from triplets. Sired by a framey, dark chocolate ram from Birch Cove Farm (David Coplen, Missouri). Dam traces to Thistle Grove Farm (John Bare DVM in Iowa) and Misty River Farm (Mary Bakko in Moses Lake, now retired). There is a Texel several generations back in that sire’s pedigree, and the shedding impact is still lingering a bit, she is a B coat this year as a yearling (but she may shed fully in subsequent years, they often do). She did not breed to lamb as a yearling.
