KMC 19047

Offered for sale as a registered yearling ram lamb, $450

A classic white ram with very strong EBVs across the board, and the NSIP Maternal Certified status. This guy will throw great butcher lambs and very strong replacement daughters that push growth, prolificacy, survival and milk to new heights. This ram is a nice combination of out-of-state genetics from Missouri and Iowa, and blends in a ewe from Mary Bakko’s now-retired Misty River Farm flock. Get ‘im while he’s hot, this is one of the nicest rams here out of my crop of 141 2019 lambs!

EBVs from the 2019 lamb crop PWWT data. Photo taken September 2019. This yearling ram ready to start breeding this fall.

Offered for sale as a registered yearling ewe $500 with wether lamb at side

Pretty dark chocolate brown ewe, slick shedder, good mama. Very positive growth and milk scores, moderate on prolifacy, this girl is likely to be a solid twinner most of her life. Lambing record starting as a yearling: 1/1.

Photo taken June 2019 with her lamb.  EBVs from 2019 lamb crop WWT data. This girl can go with her (to be castrated) grower ram lamb at side as a pair before the end of August. In Sept, she can go solo for $325 once I wean her lamb.

Offered for sale as a commercial ewe/pet $250

A classically built, white ewe, clean shedder. Her dam had mastitis on one side, trying to raise twins as a yearling, so this one ended up mostly being an orphan-rear (though not really a “bottle baby” because I teach them to drink off of a teat bucket right away). You can see in the photo that she’s kind of a friendly pest, always curious about what I’m doing. She is a product of an unplanned late breeding from a cleanup ram, and thus she is somewhat inbred, her sire is also her maternal grandsire. But the rest of her pedigree is outcrossed; so if she were bred in the future, I don’t expect her progeny to be too bottlenecked. In January I caught a small mastitis abscess on her udder and treated that. Subsequently, she did not lamb this year, and has blood-tested open for pregnancy late April. I had a couple of ewes abort during winter and she may have been one of them, or may have resorbed her pregnancy (she had originally tested positive in November for an Oct breeding.) She could be bred in the future and would likely be a reliable producer, though she may have lower milk production if part of her udder was damaged. Otherwise, she will make a friendly pasture pet.

Offered for sale as a registered ewe $375, exposed to a ram

A large-framed buckskin ewe with positive growth and milk scores, a little lower on prolificacy. Lambing record starting as two year old: 1/1, 3/2. She lost one of her triplets this year three weeks in, necropsy revealed it had no milk in its stomach, so was likely not keeping up or competing with the siblings; so she may need to be monitored if she has triplets again. But her NLB score indicates triplets may not be common for her, and she is very maternal with her remaining twins.

Photo taken June 2019.  EBVs from 2019 lamb crop PWWT data. This ewe is exposed to a ram (KMC 7045) and is due early April.

Offered for sale as a purebred Katahdin ewe with ewelamb at side $500

A feminine, classic white ewe with positive growth, milk and prolificacy. She lost her lamb last year from external causes, but easily grafted on twins, so she is very maternal. Her mother is from the now-retired Misty River line, and her paternal grandmother is from Birch Cove Farm in Missouri. Lambing record starting as a yearling: 1/2, 1/1

Photo taken June 2019.  EBVs from 2020 crop birth data. This ewe can go with her chocolate ewelamb at side before June for $500, or for $300 in August when her lamb is weaned.

KMC 5039

Offered for sale as a commercial/pet ewe, $350 with ram lamb at side

A really big-bodied, solid, reliable ewe with good growth EBVs, and low on prolificacy scores. Her lambing record starting as a 2-year-old: 1/1, 1/0, 2/2, 1/1. In 2019 she had a huge single ram lamb that was shoulder-locked in delivery overnight. I didn’t find it in time to pull it and save it, so that wasn’t really her fault, and that hurt her NLW score. But that year, I grafted two unrelated lambs onto her instead; she was a very receptive, and became a very maternal and protective mother of them. That fall, she developed a case of mastitis which manifested outwardly in an abscess. I treated her with antibiotics and it healed fine, but she has a one-sided udder now. She may be able to raise twins in the future, but will likely need supplementation. Luckily she had a single lamb this year, so she will raise him easily. Thus,I have priced her at pet/cull price, though you could certainly breed her again if you were willing to bottle feed some.

Photo taken April 2020 with her ram lamb at side (she is the ewe on the right).  EBVs from 2019 lamb crop PWWT data run. She is for sale with ram lamb at side (unregistered) for $350 for the pair before May 31st. Her lamb is white with big red spots.

Offered for sale as a purebred, registered Katahdin ewe $300

This is a really stunning solid dark chocolate ewe with balanced EBVs across the board. Very clean shedder, she is going to be a big-bodied ewe as she matures. She has balanced and positive EBVs across the board and should be a really solid producer. I keep waffling on keeping her because she is so pretty, but her prolificacy scores are a little low on my curve. Her mother is very strong, but her sire’s scores have been sinking, so she doesn’t quite make the cut to stay here. Lambing record starting as a yearling: 1/1, 2/2.

Photo taken Sept 2020. EBVs from 2020 lamb crop birth data. Her lambs are weaned and she is ready to go to a new home today!

KMC 18127

Offered for sale as a registered, proven yearling ram $550

Meaty, red ram with flashy white markings. Really strong growth and milk EBVs, moderate on prolificacy; this guy will make an awesome terminal sire or can throw replacement ewes that are  less likely to triplet, for those who prefer fewer litters in their lamb crop. I used this ram last fall for breeding and he had very nice lambs. I may still keep him for another season or two, but I shipped in two new rams from Missouri, so don’t really need this guy, thus am offering him up for sale. He weaves together a nice combo of out-of-state genetics (Birch Cove Farm in Missouri, Thistle Grove Farm in Iowa) and local stock, and there is a Dorper way back in the pedigree, for good measure!

Offered for sale as a registered ram $500

Big, meaty 2-year-old red ram. Calm and easy handling, moves away from people and moves well for dogs. I kept him as a backup breeder, but ended up not needing to use him; and this year I brought in two new rams from Missouri, so this guy is available to go to a new home. He has very balanced EBVs across the board, good growth, good prolificacy and very strong milk. He will throw very nice grower lambs as well as replacement ewes. His pedigree is an outcross of two out-of-state sheep from very strong NSIP, grass-fed flocks. He has one very small scur. Refresh your genetics with new blood from Iowa (Thistle Grove Farm, John Bare) and Missouri (Birch Cove Farm, David Coplen).

Offered for sale as a registered ewe $595 with twin lambs at side

Smaller-framed, fawn baldfaced ewe. Good growth and milk (sometimes petite ewes make good milk!), but low on prolificacy, so she will likely hover between twinning and singles most years. Her sire has a high NLB (15%), but her dam is lower (-2.9%) and since this ewe singled as a 2-year-old, her score reflects that. But she did lamb as a yearling, which not all my yearlings do, so that is a plus for her prolificacy as well. This ewe should be an easy lamber going forward and has lots of years of productivity ahead of her. Lambing record starting as a yearling: 1/1, 1/1, 2/2.

Photo taken May 2020 with her lambs at side.  EBVs from 2019 lamb crop PWWT data. She has twin lambs at side: a fawn-colored ewelamb, and a white ram lamb with tan spotting. They can go as a set before the end of May for $595.
