KMC 18108

Offered for sale as a registered yearling ewe $300

Tall, buckskin ewe with flashy markings and a panda face. Very strong growth and milk scores, lower on prolificacy, so she will likely steer away from triplets.

Photo taken May 2019.  EBVs from 2019 lamb crop birth data. This ewe is ready to grow out and breed this fall to lamb as a two-year-old.

KMC 18034

Offered for sale as a registered yearling ewe $300

A nice, heavy-bodied ewe with long neck. Chocolate with a brockle face. Very clean shedder. Really good growth and milk scores, but more moderate on prolificacy. She has a mix of lower and higher NLB animals in her pedigree, being a triplet herself, but this pedigree averages away from triplets in general.

Offered for sale as a registered ewe $370, with ram lamb at side

This is a pretty red ewe with classic Katahdin type and a very full rumen capacity built just for forage.  She has been a good mother, but has had a couple of bad luck incidents. She lost one of her twins her first year due to clostridium. In 2019, one of her twins died suddenly from something, either clostridium, accident or toxic plant exposure. He was a big, healthy ram and had a stomach full of milk, so something killed him quick not long after he had a good meal. 🙁 I don’t hold either loss against her; and am only reluctantly letting her go because she is six and on the lower end of the EBV index. She has moderate EBVs across the board and is a little low on milk, but raised triplets successfully in 2018. She can make someone a good foundation stock ewe and should lamb for another four+ years easily. Her pedigree is mostly KRK, but her maternal grandsire is from very old Washington Kathadin stock- Bert Martineau’s line; which is now retired.

Photo from winter 2018. EBVs from 2019 lamb crop PWWT data.  Lambing record starting as a two-year-old: 2/1, 2/2, 3/3, 2/1, 1/1. She has a single chocolate-colored ram lamb at side, they can go as a pair for $370 before the end of May. The ram will be weaned in August.

KMC 2006

Offered for sale as a registered ewe $675, with twin lambs at side

This is a classic white ewe,  good mother, has raised 12 lambs in seven years, no losses. She has very strong growth and milk scores, and positive lamb survival. I’m dropping her because of her lower NLB data, which is sourced partly from her family tree, as this ewe has been a pretty consistent twinner herself. She is seven this year, and likely to have another 4+ good years of twinning left. This pedigree has some diverse genetics, both “old” WA stock from Bert Martineau, as well as North Dakota State University, plus a little Dorper thrown in for good measure.

Photo taken June 2019.  EBVs from 2019 WWT lamb crop data.  Lambing record starting as a yearling: 1/1, 2/2, 2/2, 2/2, 1/1, 2/2, 2/2. She can go now with her chocolate ewe lamb and (to be castrated) white grower ram lamb at side before August (they are sired by KMC 7018), or for $250 solo once her lambs are weaned.

Offered for sale as a registered ewe $400, exposed to a ram

A very flashy-marked ewe, with moderate growth and prolificacy, but very high milk. Paternal side has out-of-state genetics from Iowa (Thistle Grove Farm) and Missouri (Birch Cove Farm), so she brings some diversity to the PNW.

Photo taken August 2019. EBVs from 2019 lamb crop PWWT data. This ewe has been exposed to a ram (KMC 7045) and is due mid April.

KMC 7018

Offered for sale as a proven, registered herd sire $550

Meaty red ram with a baldface and white socks. Really clean, early shedder, AA-type coat. Mellow, easy to handle ram, ignores people and moves easily with dogs. I’ve used this ram for two seasons and he’s had really nice progeny. I’d keep him longer, but I bought two new rams from David Coplen in Missouri, so it’s time to let some of my existing rams go; and I have a lot of these genetics in my ewe base already. Good solid growth and milk scores, moderate on prolifacy; this ram would be a great terminal sire, or for improving a flock’s growth genetics. His pedigree is a nice blend of Thistle Grove Farm (Iowa), Misty Oaks Farm (Ohio), and the now-retired John Stromquist’s White Post Farm on the East Coast; so he brings some good out-crossed diversity to the PNW.

Reference Ram

I kept this ram back as a replacement for his sire because he keeps his strong growth scores but improves greatly on prolificacy and milk. He’s still a little low on survival, but has a lot of potential in all the other EBVs. Photo taken November 2018 heading into breeding season. He’s a very nondescript-looking ram, and a little shaggy and muddy in winter, but his EBVs are quite good! You can see in the photo his scrotal circumstance is significant compared to his frame size, which gives him a boost in prolificacy scores.

KMC 7045

Offered for sale as a proven, mature, registered Ram $450

This ram has sired some nice lambs over three years, it’s time for him to move to a new place. He has good growth, milk and survival scores, and moderate prolificacy, so his daughters may steer clear of triplets much of the time. He carries a pretty heavy coat in winter and retains a little bit of “pants” sometimes; and I’ve had a few shaggy lambs turn up (<5% of the crop), though it doesn’t matter to me since I can just run those through the butcher channel. Overall, this ram can cover a lot of ewes and should produce a lot of growthy lambs. He is quiet and easy to handle, and neutral to people (not tame or friendly, nor wild).

KMC 18113

Offered for sale as a registered ram lamb $300

Stocky, compact-framed white ram with positive growth and really high prolificacy scores, and lower on maternal milk. This guy and his sibling 18112 are both what I would consider “maternal rams”,  that will produce really high-producing daughters, but also have reasonable traits for growth. I notice that rams with these kinds of scores tend to be compact, with huge testicles compared to their frame size; so they are not visually impressive, but are genetically very strong. This ram has a little weaker EBVs than his brother, and he is scurred, but I find him to be more attractive than his sibling.

Photo taken mid October 2018.  EBVs from 2018 lamb crop 120 day weight data. This ram is weaned and ready to go to a breeding home today!
