Offered for sale as a registered Katahdin ewe $275

Stocky white seven year old ewe. She has a very calm and kindly temperament. Strong growth and milk, with lower prolificacy in her EBVs; so she may steer away from triplets, though you can see she had them once.  She is a calm and dedicated mother. This pedigree captures Thistle Grove farm (John Bare, DVM in Iowa), Carl Ginapp’s genetics (Iowa, now retired), Lynn Fahrmeier (Missouri), Birch Cove Farm (David Coplen, Missouri), Dosch Katahdins ( South Dakota, now retired) and some local genetics. A good chance to capture so-of-town genetics from long-time NSIP producers. Lambing record starting as a 2-year-old: 3/3, 2/1, 2/2, 1/1, 1/1, 2/1

Photo taken May 2023. EBVs from 2022 lamb crop EPWWT data. This ewe is NSIP genotyped. She had twins this year, but one was stillborn. The other had trouble after birth and I ended up having them in the barn for a long time to help him along. He initially didn’t grow well, so I suspected her milk supply; but her bag felt full, supple and healthy, so I don’t know what went wrong. He eventually rallied and looks great at two months old, eating creep feed. I’m listing her at pet price in case her milk production is on the decline. She may be perfectly fine to breed again, but since she’s getting older, just be ready to bottle feed or supplement if needed. Her lamb is weaned and she’s ready to go to a new home today.

Offered for sale as a registered Katahdin ewe $425, exposed

Sweet eight year old orange pinto ewe. Balanced, non-extreme EBVs across the board. Really strong maternal behavior, she is a calm and attentive mother. I bought her at the 2014 KHSI Expo in Nebraska from David Coplen (Birch Cove in Missouri). As she’s aged, her udder is losing productivity, so she can practically only raise a single. She can do well with her extra lambs staying with her but being taught to nurse off a teat bucket. She is robust and healthy, so I think can lamb for several more years, with some help with the feeding of her lambs. This pedigree captures Thistle Grove farm (John Bare, DVM in Iowa), Carl Ginapp’s genetics (Iowa, now retired), Lynn Fahrmeier (Missouri), plus a lot of Birch Cove. A good chance to capture some out-of-town genetics from a long-time NSIP producer. Lambing record starting as a yearling: 1/1, 2/2, 3/3, 2/2, 3/3, 3/2, 2/2, 1/1

Photo taken December 2022 and she is looking pretty huge. EBVs from 2022 lamb crop EPWWT data. This ewe is NSIP genotyped. She has been exposed to a ram since 9/20/22 and is expected to lamb in the March-April timeframe.

KMC 22120

Offered for sale as a Katahdin pet ewelamb, $200

Pretty feminine ewelamb with fawn spotting. She has a great pedigree, but unfortunately was born with entropion, a genetic condition where her eyelids turned in (the first one I’ve ever encountered!). Thus, she shouldn’t be bred and risk passing on this trait, which can cause discomfort and eye irritation in the lamb until treated. The good news is, entropion is easily corrected with small injections of penicillin under the lower eyelid, which creates scar tissue that causes the eyelid to turn back outward like it should. As you can see in the photo, the issue is corrected and she is healthy doing well.

Photo taken August 2022. She is weaned and ready to go to a new home today.

Offered for sale as a purebred, register-able Katahdin ram lamb, $475

Flashy white ram with big red dots and panda face markings. Solid EBVs but a little lower on prolificacy, for those who like to steer clear of triplets. Pedigree traces back to Birch Cove Farm (David Coplen, Missouri), Misty River Farm (Mary Bakko, Moses Lake, now retired), Aspen Mountain (Aileen Scott, Montana) and a little bit of KRK (Oregon) genetics. Sire is from Birch Cove, he is one of the highest EBV rams in the country right now, with strong, proven data behind him. We are lucky to have him here on the west coast and he’s going to be an influencer for some time to come.

Photo taken July 2022. EBVs from EPWWT data. This ram has been NSIP genotyped and is NSIP Stud Certified. He is weaned and ready to go to a new home and start breeding today.

KMC 22128

Offered for sale as a purebred, registered Katahdin ram lamb, $550

This is a very standard white ram with some brown dots and a pale eye patch. But his EBVs are Through. The. Roof. ! Killer growth, prolificacy, survival and milk, all while holding birth weight low. This is the best ram out of this year’s crop and on par with my best breeding stock, don’t let him get away! He will take your replacement ewes to the next level, I have no doubt you will see a witness-able jump in progress from these genetics. Pedigree traces back to Birch Cove Farm (David Coplen, Missouri), KRK (Karen Kenagy, Oregon) genetics. Sire is from Birch Cove, he is one of the highest EBV rams in the country right now, with strong, proven data behind him. We are lucky to have him here on the west coast and he’s going to be an influencer for some time to come. The ewe WAI1550 in this pedigree was a somewhat accidental acquisition and she is not a looker; but has emerged to be quite a ringer in her EBVs and the ram lambs she’s produced, several of which have gone out of state.

Photo taken July 2022. EBVs from EPWWT data. He has been NSIP genotyped. This ram is both NSIP Maternal and Stud Certified. He is ready to go to a new home and start breeding today. I used him some for breeding fall of 2022, so he’ll have some data in the system next year.

Offered for sale as a purebred, registered Katahdin ram lamb, $500

Light chocolate ram with a brockle face. Stellar EBVs across the board and especial strength on milk. Pedigree traces back to Birch Cove Farm (David Coplen, Missouri), KRK (Karen Kenagy, Oregon) and Thistle Grove Farm (Dr. John Bare DVM, Iowa) genetics. Sire is from Birch Cove, he is one of the highest EBV rams in the country right now, with strong, proven data behind him. We are lucky to have him here on the west coast and he’s going to be an influencer for some time to come. This ram is both NSIP Maternal and Stud Certified.

Photo taken July 2022. EBVs from EPWWT data. This ram lamb is ready to go to a new home and start breeding today. Due to an error in sorting, he actually got his chance early here, and bred a bunch of ewes in the Sept/Oct timeframe (I mean, a LOT of ewes- way more than the textbooks say a 5-month old ram should be able to accomplish…). Not an unhappy accident since he’s such a good ram, but was not according to my timing or plan! So he will be in good company as far as having a lot of data in the system next year.
