Offered for sale as a purebred  Katahdin ram lamb $450

Really striking dark mahogany ram with a big white blaze, white front toe tips and tail, long hind socks, and white markings on his sides. He is very tall and framey like both parents. Sired by a framey, dark chocolate ram from Birch Cove Farm (David Coplen, Missouri). Dam traces to KRK, Morgan Ensor’s line, and Aspen Mountain (Aileen Scott, Montana). He’s got good growth EBVs, positive milk, and is more modest on prolificacy.

She’s sold and will be leaving late June, so he’s essentially weaned and could go to a new home any time. He should continue to be fed creep (16% CP+ grain) for another month or so, until his rumen is mature and he learns to graze, to maintain his good growth plane.

Flashy chocolate pinto ram. Dam traces back to Misty River Farm (Mary Bakko, now retired) and a big, framey white ram from Birch Cove Farm (David Coplen, Missouri).  We in the PNW have been lucky to borrow a ram from the USDA Research Station in Booneville, AR; Dr. Joan Burke is lending him to our region so that we can get better linkage to the “cluster” of flocks in the Midwest/South. He’s been on a tour through Idaho and Oregon, and made a stop here last winter to be used in my flock, and he’s headed East now. Take advantage of some great out-of-state genetics! He is both NSIP Maternal and NSIP Stud Certified.

Note that this ram’s dam is not a great shedder as a yearling, though I suspect she may shed cleanly next year as a two-year-old (her sire is BC H 973, who is a “barely B coat” upgrade). This ram doesn’t seem particularly shaggy to me, so I think he’ll shed fine; but just full disclosure for folks who are really worried about getting clean coats.

Fawn pinto ram. Sired by a framey, dark chocolate ram from Birch Cove Farm (David Coplen, Missouri). Dam traces to Thistle Grove Farm (Dr. John Bare, DVM, Iowa) and  a very distant Dorper cross done by Shirley Hasbrouck many years ago! Very balanced, but moderate EBVs across the board.

His dam is from Misty River Farm (Mary Bakko, now retired) and she is a triplet queen! She is a smaller-framed ewe and you can see the less framey growth scores coming both from her and the sire. This ram is what we call a “maternal sire” who would be great for producing replacement ewes that have very high prolificacy and survival, and good milk. Growth can come with good feeding, but # lambs brought to market is our primary profitability lever. This ram is NSIP Stud Certified due to his high index and prolificacy scores.

Offered for sale as a purebred Katahdin ewelamb $250

Cute white ewelamb with one orange spot. She is petite in stature, but she is heavy and well muscled already! Her mother is older and can’t raise triplets anymore, so I’ve orphan-reared this girl. She is trained to the teat bucket and is completely self-sufficient. Dam is out of old-stock WA genetics (Bert Martineau, now retired plus On the Lamb Farm); and also traces back to a White Post Farm (East Coast, now retired) ram. Sire is a “loaner” ram from the USDA Research Station in Booneville, AR; and we are lucky to have him up in the PNW, sharing good NSIP genetics from the Midwest and South. He brings genetics from Lee Wright and Lynn Fahrmeier, as well as more Birch Cove. This girl has modest growth EBVs, but good on milk and stellar on prolificacy and survival.  Triplets are likely in her future, and she will raise a lot of lambs in her lifetime! I will likely keep 1-2 out of this set of triplet girls, so take advantage of this opportunity to get some of my “keeper” genetics!
