KMC 20110

Offered for sale as a purebred Katahdin ram $450

A very flashy bicolor ram, nice short hair coat. Very strong growth, good milk, but low on prolificacy. He is a good candidate for a terminal sire, or for those who prefer replacement ewes that tend way away from triplets. Pedigree is a good blend of Birch Cove (David Coplen, Missouri), KRK (Oregon), Misty River Farm (Mary Bakko, Moses Lake, now retired), and Just Plain Sheep (Jody Ouradnik in Eastern WA). A strong North Dakota State U ram as a maternal grandsire as well. Pictured here with his dam, he was a single, so is pretty big and should be able to cover a lot of ewes this fall.

Photo taken Aug 2020.  EBVs from 2020 lamb crop WWT data. This ram is weaned and ready to go to a new home and start breeding today!

Offered for sale as a purebred Katahdin ram $450

A pretty, tall, chocolate ram with dapple coloring over his face and legs. Very strong growth, prolificacy and milk, a little more modest on survival. A good, balanced sire for both grower lambs and replacement ewes. Pedigree is a good blend of Birch Cove (David Coplen, Missouri), KRK (Oregon), and Misty River Farm (Mary Bakko, Moses Lake, now retired).

Offered for sale as a purebred Katahdin ram $450

This ram has pretty cute markings, he’s white and a baldface, but has a splash of brown spilled over his ears, shoulders and chest! Nice short hair coat. Very strong growth, milk and survival, and a little lower on prolificacy. He will make a great terminal sire or a father of replacement ewes for those who don’t like a lot of triplets. Pedigree si a good blend of Birch Cove (David Coplen, Missouri), KRK (Oregon), Misty River Farm (Mary Bakko, Moses Lake, now retired), and Aspen Mountain Farm (Aileen Scott, Montana).

Offered for sale as a purebred, record-able Katahdin ram $400

Chocolate ram with a pale face. Really strong growth and milk numbers, positive on prolificacy and survival. This is a balanced ram that can produce fast-growing meat lambs and good replacement ewes. He is out of my newly-purchased white ram from Birch Cove Farm in Missouri (David Coplen); which is a grass-based, minimal input system with a long history of NSIP data. Note that ram has some Texel in his background, and is an 87.5% recorded ram. He has not shed adequately this year, so I will not be upgrading him (yet). Thus his lambs will also be record-able and eligible for upgrade upon hair coat inspection (which I can do) next summer. This lamb’s coat looks like it should have no problem fully shedding next year. For me, this ram’s productivity scores outweigh the shedding drawback in the pedigree, but I have discounted his lambs accordingly. On the maternal side, this lamb has good local genetics plus a ewe that’s also from Birch Cove.

Offered for sale as a purebred Katahdin ram $400

Dark chocolate ram with a lot of color in his pedigree. Good growth numbers, positive on prolificacy and survival, and a little low on milk. He would make a good terminal sire, and will throw replacement ewes that have fewer triplets and milk complexity, for those who have hands-off flocks. He is out of my newly-purchased chocolate ram from Birch Cove Farm in Missouri (David Coplen); which is a grass-based, minimal input system with a long history of NSIP data. On the maternal side, he’s got a lot of local genetics plus a ewe from Birch Cove.

Offered for sale as a purebred Katahdin ram $425

Big, blocky chocolate ram with black penciling, nice slick hair coat. Good growth numbers, positive on prolificacy, good survival, and a little low on milk. He would make a good terminal sire, and will throw replacement ewes that have fewer triplets and milk complexity, for those who have hands-off flocks. This is a big, single ram that has already hit my target butcher weight as a 4-month-old, so he should be able to cover a lot of ewes in the fall. You can see in the photo he’s nearly as big as his dam.

He is out of my newly-purchased chocolate ram from Birch Cove Farm in Missouri (David Coplen); which is a grass-based, minimal input system with a long history of NSIP data. On the maternal side, he’s got a lot of my most reliable old ewes, and some other local genetis.

KMC 20065

Offered for sale as a purebred Katahdin ram $400

Light red/fawn ram with a pale face. Nice, short hair coat. Positive growth, good milk and solid prolificacy scores; this is a balanced ram and should be a solid producer of both grower lambs and replacement ewes. He is out of my newly-purchased chocolate ram from Birch Cove Farm in Missouri (David Coplen); which is a grass-based, minimal input system with a long history of NSIP data. On the maternal side, he’s got other solid NSIP genetics from Iowa and Montana, so brings a lot of fresh genetics to the PNW.

Offered for sale as a purebred Katahdin yearling ewe, $200

Cute little fawn bald-faced ewe. This little girl was getting behind on growth, I don’t think her mother had a very good milk supply. So I weaned this girl early at 60 days so she could be in the barn and have access to hotter feed. She has positive but modest EBVs, so will be a very standard producing ewe, and likely won’t breed this fall because she is so tiny right now. She needs a year to grow up, and she’ll either make a nice pet or a reliable breeder starting at age two. She is very sweet and calm.

Photo taken June 2020. EBVs from 2020 lamb crop WWT data. This ewe is weaned and ready to go to a new home today. She needs to be on a high protein feed (creep and/or alfalfa hay) for at least a few months to let her catch up on growing. $200 if she goes before the end of July, she is discounted because you’ll have to feed her more than a bigger ewelamb that’s weaned onto grass in August!

KMC 19054

Offered for sale as a purebred Katahdin yearling ewe $300

Very flashy red ewe with a lot of white markings: white hind socks, tail, side spots and blaze. Very framey, tall and elegant ewe. Pedigree leverages diverse genetics from Missouri (Birch Cove Farm) and Iowa (Thistle Grove Farm), Misty Oaks Farm (Kathy Bielek, OH), White Post Farm (East Coast, now retired), and KRK Katahdins in Oregon. Really nice, balanced EBVs across the board, this girl should raise growthy lambs on good milk and be a fairly consistent twinner.

EBVs from the 2020  lamb crop birth data. Photo taken May 2020. This yearling ewe is ready to breed this fall to lamb as a two year old.

KMC 7066

Offered for sale as a commercial ewe/pet $250

Smaller-framed, dappled chocolate ewe. She is a calm and loyal mama, but has a very weak milk supply. I’ve not observed mastitis in her, either she has had a low-grade case or is just generally a poor milker. She also doesn’t hold condition well during nursing, whereas some poor-milking ewes stay really fat because they’re not putting much energy into milk. She could be bred again and may do ok on a small farm in a high input system (alfalfa and grain feeding year-round), though be prepared to bottle supplement or orphan-rear her lambs. Otherwise, she will make a sweet and pretty pasture pet.

Photo taken May 2020.  EBVs from 2020 lamb crop birth data. Her lambs have been mostly orphan-reared and are basically weaned, so she can go to a new home any time.
