Offered for sale as a purebred  Katahdin ram lamb $450

Striking chocolate roan ram with panda face markings. We in the PNW have been lucky to borrow a ram from the USDA Research Station in Booneville, AR; Dr. Joan Burke is lending him to our region so that we can get better linkage to the “cluster” of flocks in the Midwest/South. He’s been on a tour through Idaho and Oregon, and made a stop here last winter to be used in my flock, and he’s headed East now. Take advantage of some great out-of-state genetics!

His dam traces back Misty River Farm (Mary Bakko, Moses Lake, now retired). This guy is very strong in growth, milk and survival, more modest on prolifacy. He’ll produce good-growing butcher lambs and replacement ewes that have great milk and survival traits, but hopefully will be a little lower on the twin-triplet scale, for those who despise multi births.

Well built red roan ram. This guy is very strong in growth, milk and survival, more modest on prolifacy. He’ll produce good-growing butcher lambs and replacement ewes that have great milk and survival traits, but hopefully will be a little lower on the twin-triplet scale, for those who despise multi births. This ram is NSIP Stud Certified, due to his high growth and milk scores.

Buckskin-reddish triplet ram lamb. Really strong EBVs across the board. This ram will throw growthy butcher lambs and really productive replacement daughters. Only five rams in the nation born in the last five  years meet or exceed this ram’s EBVs. He is NSIP Stud Certified.

This ram’s sire is a very strong ram from David Coplen (Birch Cove Farm, Missouri). This sire has a Texel thee generations back. David’s crossing-in benefits us with heterosis and the double-muscling gene from Texels. The tradeoff is some setback in shedding, but this is easily recovered from in subsequent generations.  His sire is an upgrade, a B coat, but most of his offspring are good shedders; and this ram lamb can be fully registered.

Mahogany ram with white hind socks, spots and blaze. Sired by a framey, dark chocolate ram from Birch Cove Farm (David Coplen, Missouri). Dam traces to  Misty River Farm (Mary Bakko, Moses Lake, now retired) and Just Plain Sheep (Jody Ouradnik, now retired). Really good growth, milk and survival, but modest on prolificacy. This guy will throw great butcher lambs and replacement ewes if you want to steer clear of triplets.

Flashy chocolate and white pinto, baldfaced ram. Sired by a framey, dark chocolate ram from Birch Cove Farm (David Coplen, Missouri). Dam traces to Thistle Grove Farm (Dr. John Bare, DVM, Iowa)  and Misty River Farm (Mary Bakko, Moses Lake, now retired). Modest prolificacy, positive growth, and good milk scores. He doesn’t have stellar EBVs, but I know some homesteaders just want a cool looking ram, if so, this is your guy!

Nicely put together white ram. Sired by a framey, dark chocolate ram from Birch Cove Farm (David Coplen, Missouri). Dam traces to Thistle Grove Farm (Dr. John Bare, DVM, Iowa)  and a ewe from Birch Cove. Modest prolificacy, positive milk and good growth scores. This ram will make a good terminal sire or to produce replacement ewes that avoid a lot of triplets.

He should be creep fed with grain or alfalfa for another month or so to replace what he would have gotten from another month of nursing, and keep his growth and parasite resistance strong.

Offered for sale as a purebred, record-able Katahdin ewelamb $350

Classic white ewelamb. NSIP Maternal Certified designation. Dam is one of my best ewes, from the now-retired Misty River Farm (Mary Bakko, Moses Lake). Sire is a very strong scoring ram from Birch Cove Farm in Missouri (David Coplen).

Sire has a Texel several generations back in his pedigree, so we’re benefitting from some heterosis there, as well as the potential for the myostatin (double muscling) gene. This ram didn’t shed well last year so I haven’t upgraded him yet, but I think this year he might. If he doesn’t, this ewe will be record-able and will need a hair coat inspection next year to upgrade to 100% purebred registration (I am a hair coat inspector, so I can do that for you).

This is one of the best ewelambs born here this year, but I’m keeping her sib, and I don’t usually keep both of twins. She’s got stellar and balanced EBVs across the board, low birth weight, while growth, prolificacy, survival and milk- all are very, very strong! So it’s a nice opportunity to get one of my highest scoring ewelambs into your flock’s genetics.

Beefy chocolate ram with brockle face and white markings. Really strong EBVs across the board, this is the best ram born here this year, he should produce knockout grower lambs as well as strong replacement ewes with high prolificacy and milking. His dam is a mix of local genetics, she came here by way of someone getting out of Katahdins and was a lucky acquisition for me, as her EBVs have been climbing as more of her lamb crop data enters the system. This ram is both NSIP Maternal and NSIP Stud Certified.

Classic white ram. Dam traces back to Thistle Grove Farm (Dr. John Bare, DVM, Iowa), Misty Oaks Farm (Kathy Bielek, OH), Aspen Mountain Farm (Aileen Scott, MT) and some local On The Lamb Farm (Sara-Joh Gahm, Arlington, WA). Sire is a very framey and strong NSIP ram from Birch Cove Farm (David Coplen, MO). This guy is very strong across the board, on growth, prolificacy and milk; he’ll throw great butcher lambs and strong replacement ewes.  Note his sire is 87.5% recorded (due to tracing back to a Texel cross 4 generations ago) and I have not yet upgraded him because he didn’t shed adequately as a yearling. He may shed this year, thus freeing his offspring up to be 100% registered automatically. But if not, this ram lamb will need a hair coat inspection next year (which I can do, I’m a certified inspector) to be fully upgraded. Until then, he is record-able.

Dark chocolate ram with a small star. Sired by a framey, dark chocolate ram from Birch Cove Farm (David Coplen, Missouri). Dam traces to KRK and Morgan Ensor’s line,. He’s got balanced EBVs that are on the conservative side- nothing extreme.

Photo from June 2021.   EBVs from 2021 WWT data. This guy’s dam didn’t have a lot of milk this year, she’s getting older. So I brought them into the barn so he could creep feed. She’s been sold and he’s weaned and could go to a new home any time. He should continue to be fed creep (16% CP+ grain) for another month or two, until his rumen is mature and he learns to graze, to maintain him on a good growth plane.
